Hawaii / Honolulu: Waikiki Beach Sunset

Goodbye Hawaii!

My short 5 day trip to this wonderful island is already over :-(
Why can´t we stop time if it´s necessary?
I never imagined that I will have the possibility to come here and I hope that there will be a second time.

Kilometers of white sandy beach, the gorgeous turquois, light and dark blue shimmering sea with the spectacular big waves and the infinite view to the Pacific Ocean are so breathtaking! I could watch this colorful panorama for hours! Palm trees and old artful intertwined Indian trees, hundreds of different species of exotic flowers and plants… this amazing nature captured me completely!

I hiked up the Diamond Head Crater to see the sunrise, I was sailing with a catamaran to observe wales, I walked through the green rainforest to a hidden waterfall, I visited old Buddhistic temples and I saw big green turtles and monk seals on my way to the North Shore of Oahu.

I enjoyed it so much to discover a small part of this paradisiac island and I´m quite sad to leave it.

Ok, of course there are some inconveniences… Waikiki Beach is full of tourists (especially retired persons, coming here to play golf) and the contrast of the amazing nature to the modern high buildings is huge, but it´s very chic, clean and some hotel constructions are impressive.

Well, if someone behind this screen wants to invite me to Hawaii, I would love to stay in the Hilton Hawaiian Village (room with sea view of course). :-)

On the east and north side of Oahu Island, the nature is quite untouched and in some areas there are no hotels at all.

I liked the relaxed summer atmosphere in Waikiki with a light breeze of sweet and fresh flower fragrances, singing birds in the trees, local and Hawaiian traditional music everywhere.
Even at night you don´t need a jacket, because it´s always warm. The Center of Waikiki and some parts of the beach are very animated and local groups are playing traditional music. You can find a lot of Japanese and Chinese food restaurants, cozy and lovely decorated bars and restaurants. In the evening, an adonis-like runner lights all the torches along the avenues and this fire creates a tropical ambiance in Waikiki.

For fashion fans this area could be really dangerous: Waikiki has a big shopping area with luxury boutiques, like Chanel, Prada, Dior, Louis Vuitton, brands for less money and local Hawaiian stores, where you can buy nice gifts with the typical flower print.

Of course I bought some Hawaiian souvenirs. Even if I left already some clothes in San Francisco or I sent some stuff back home, my suitcase seems to be fuller and heavier with every city! I don´t know why, I bought less than I sent home. Strange…

Mahalo nui loa & a hui hou!
